Happy Anniversary!

3 years ago Luke and I were married at sunset in a lovely garden, it feels like forever ago and yesterday! We've been together just a little over 5 years and I don't know how it's possible but I love him more everyday. He's my best friend of all time and I can't imagine spending my life without him. We can do every thing or nothing and have fun as long as we're together, he just makes it all worth it for me. I feel like we've grown up together and I can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together..whatever may come. He's helped make my dreams come true!

For our anniversary we took some fun photos to remember the day! I talked him into wearing the silly vintage velvet bow tie that we had thrifted for Copper to wear in the wedding haha! He was still a pup at the time and was way too stubborn and energetic to walk down the aisle! I recreated my wedding day makeup look and wore my handmade vintage blossom crown that I adore. I had added a few of these same flowers to my wedding birdcage veil I created and it makes me think of that beautiful day every time I see it! Hooray for love!

copper adores him..i think he's his favorite haha!

midweek menagerie

A collection of thoughts and things..

Joan Holloway-esque makeup- I'm halfway through Mad Men season 4 and love Joan's perfect red orange lipstick. I need this shade in my lip wardrobe asap..I used to hate lipstick! I customize colors when I can't find an affordable version of what I love.

Coffee breaks-

Au naturale- I've only done my hair/makeup twice this week..hooray for lazy days!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

sweet days of summer

blowing through the jasmine in my mind

I've been doing nothing but watching Mad Men,working on pieces, and hanging out in my pajamas..I feel like I lost a week of my life! My back finally feels better and I was able to enjoy the summer again, I can't believe it's almost over..it flew by! This halo is one of my favorite things I've ever made, and one of the first. I found a darling little dusty old hat in a thrift store years ago and while the hat had seen better days these sweet vintage jasmine blossoms were begging for a new life. That hat started my obsession with vintage millinery and was the first piece in my ever growing collection of old hats. I used the blooms to create a pretty floral wreath to adorn my head..the little flowers are thin and delicate and so very old that I don't wear it too often but when I do it's instant happiness!
I've also been listening to the oldies radio station and a lot of 60's and 70's music..can you tell?

I hope everyone is having a lovely week!

Film Friday

   Beauty and the Beast-1946

"For grown-ups who haven't lost touch with their childhood"

I adore fairy tales and the story of Beauty and the Beast is one of my favorites. This french film is hauntingly beautiful and so magical, the best version ever made! It's directed by poet and filmmaker Jean Cocteau and stars the stunning Josette Day as Belle and Jean Marais as Avenant/the beast.

What's your favorite fairy tale?

midweek menagerie

A collection of thoughts and things-

After an epic almost-wipeout on my bike my lower back has been killing me the past few days..I think I pulled something, not fun. We spent our day off hanging at home and catching up on True Blood and Breaking Bad, the heating pad was my friend. My back finally started feeling a little better yesterday so we went out for a bit to grab dinner at our favorite Thai place and rented a few movies. I want to get back to my walk/runs, hopefully I'll feel 100% soon! I guess I didn't gage that curb very well..haha

I'm loving my detachable crochet collar

Some tastiness from the week-

grilled peaches!

mini peach bundt cakes using my vintage pan...so good, and cute!

I'm dying to see this movie..Drive

I hope everyone is having a great week so far!

weekend winsome

I

The weather was ahmazing this weekend so we spent a lot of time outside doing all the fun things it's usually too hot to do! The fair was in town so we stopped in for a while to check it out but I was most excited about the funnel cake..topped with Bavarian creme and strawberries, omg. Def a once a year thing, we couldn't even finish it! I loved all of the animals at the petting zoo and I may have rushed in front of a small child to pet the baby pig and mini horse. I want to have a farm one day with only short animals..tall things scare me and there was a slightly creepy uncle sam dude on stilts that snuck up behind me..they can smell fear haha
i wore my favorite plaid shirt from the 50's, i adore the puff sleeves and pan collar

one of my favorites, i loved this one as a kid!

I took Clementine out for a long bike ride and a picnic at the park, it was so nice to just sit under the trees and catch up on some of my vintage books. We've collected so many but I can never seem to find time to just relax and read, I love the smell of the old pages and the crack of a dusty spine. I wish every summer weekend was this amazing, can you believe it's already the middle of August?!

Clementine got quite the workout..so did my thighs

I hope everyone had a fun weekend!

just peachy

tastes like summer..

Luke and I had the most amazing weather for our day off so we just had to do something outside. We went to our favorite orchard to get lunch and pick our own peaches. A honey bear holds yummy apple butter and is served with warm fried biscuits..

It started getting windy and raining just a little bit..I'll take anything over 100 degree days and it was in the 70's, perfect!  Since it was a little late in the season there was a ton of fruit wasted on the ground and the lady told us it would be a bit like a treasure hunt to find the good stuff. It smelled so good though!

Leaves on the ground make me happy..I can't wait for fall!

I guess we ventured a little too far out because the wagon left without us( and a few others) so we had a bit more time to find more peaches! There really is nothing quite like plucking your own fruit from a tree. I can't wait to make a pie, cobbler,or do some canning! My grandma and I used to can our own fresh jam/salsa and I plan on trying it out on my own. Mmm(a plum one picked from a backyard tree & a vegetable patch tomato jam that I never stop thinking about)

weekend winsome

I

This weekend was spent catching up on some z's and hanging out in town. Luke and I went to the local historic theater along with my mom and brother to see the new planet of the apes movie. I'm not usually a fan of cg heavy movies but I really liked it! I had every intention of heading out late that night to see a friends band play at one of our favorite bars on main st. but I fell asleep!

This dinner was so delicious, perfect for a warm summer night!

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend!

Film Friday

The Postman Always Rings Twice-1946

Film noir with a classic fatal attraction storyline. A mysterious young traveler with severe wanderlust happens upon a sleepy town..

I love the epic whir of music when they first kiss and her deadpan reapplication of lipstick throughout the film. Her wardrobe features figure enhancing ensembles and a dramatic turban.  In one instance she wears the most gorgeous vintage skirted swimsuit with a structured blazer, so glam!  Another fantastic outfit features a slim pencil skirt, silk blouse, beret ,and gloves.

Linger

Generation X inspires Generation Y
I LOVE 90's music..I can clearly remember that this is the exact time period that my love of music began. My parents were young when they had me(19!) and my dad was into music. I remember always looking through his huge binder filled with amazing cds while riding around in his super cool grey camaro with the music blasting. The first CDs I remember were alice in chains, duran duran, nirvana, and begging him to play "hungry like the wolf" over and over again. I was probably only like 7 at the time but I loved music so much. I swear he bought every popular cd that came out to add to his collection. I remember loving "sunny came home", and singing along to Ace of Base "the sign" with my brownie girl scout troop. It's crazy to think that my parents were only about 25 years old at the time, the same age I am now!
(My mom's music was Prince(always) and I'll never not think of her when I hear "pump up the jam"(Technotronic) or "push it" (Salt n Pepa) When I was little she would be like "I bet I can make you move" and give me a beat I couldn't resist dancing to haha! Mom was 17 when she snuck out of the house wearing a tuxedo to a Prince concert. He tried to pull her onstage!)

Here are a few of my favorites that make me feel nostalgic..and angsty

thrifted boots/dress,vintage locket

What's your favorite 90's thing?
