girl

THERE is something in the autumn that is native to my blood—
Touch of manner, hint of mood;
And my heart is like a rhyme,
With the yellow and the purple and the crimson keeping time.

The scarlet of the maples can shake me like a cry
5
Of bugles going by.
And my lonely spirit thrills
To see the frosty asters like a smoke upon the hills.

There is something in October sets the gypsy blood astir;
We must rise and follow her,
When from every hill of flame
She calls and calls each vagabond by name.

-a vagabond song

Bliss Carman. 1861

A favorite, written around the same time our house was built!
The wind is rattling these old bones and whipping the forlorn leaves around..along with the first flurries of snow, a white Christmas perhaps?

My girl..the first antique photo/frame I ever bought. This old girl's made it through a lot. It's the kind of eerie old photo whose eyes seem to follow your every move.
Perfect colors and a Tambourine in hand.
I like to pretend she's my long lost great grandma.(dad was adopted in Chicago and I always wondered about genealogy)
Her music making hangs over my old record player and stand.

I've been working on my mantle, I like to change it up with the seasons. The weather outside is frightful..these make me dream of pretty places.

summer sounds and beekeeper bookmarks

comfy/cozy
wearing my warmest over the knee sweater socks and oversized wool..so warm. This old cardigan follows me everywhere, vintage Irish wool with perfect little grandma pockets-homes of Donegal "MacGintys BallyBofey"

teal is having a moment in my life right now..

I'm working on painting a few more little accents, put those alleyway saves to good use haha

Hope you're staying warm!

update:

I finally got the chance to get a look at my ancestor's genetic makeup..because we're living in the future(nearly 2020) and this technology is almost as cool as flying cars.
My dna traveled a long way on its journey to me.

kitchen comforts

Some snaps of the little details that make my kitchen one of my favorite places, it's coming together slowly but surely! I like to take my time with all of the house work/decorating to keep my sanity..the stories she could tell! Like who painted bright orange over two layers of old wallpaper in this kitchen of mine..luckily I saw potential in this fixer upper and sort of knew what I was getting into haha Over 150 years old and over 2,000 sq ft, every inch needed tons of tlc..

retro aprons

Falkor
Nearly everything is vintage from thrift stores, flea markets..and perfectly imperfect. Just how I like it, things that are too nice make me nervous.

old linen napkins

Thanks for taking a peak into this space of mine!

'til sunbeams find you

Daydream by Wallace Collection on Grooveshark

I love the weather we've been having the past few days, 70's and sunny! A welcome break from the summertime heat, if I can wear tights and sleeves I'm a happy girl.  These were taken at what we like to call picnic park. There are a few parks in the area that we love for certain reasons and this is our favorite, it's close enough to ride our bikes to and has the perfect ratio of clearing/trees. I'm horrible at directions and street names thus the easy alliteration. I dubbed this area  woodchuck way,  there are usually no less than three of the chubby little roly polys trumbleing* around!

* I have a number of funny words in my vocabulary that have been inherited/made up. I say them a lot but sometimes I catch myself typing them and think,wait..is that an actual word? haha

 via dear winsome dictionary
trum-ble-ing
verb- to move around clumsily with no rhyme or reason
example- i hear you trumbleing around down there, what are you looking for?

using my "heavy metal" headpiece sample from a few seasons ago as my holga strap

            vintage manatee necklace
one of his little
flippers is missing..makes me love him even
more!

this medallion is metal and surprisingly heavy

one of my favorite bracelets, I love how the glass stones are dark but warm up in the sun..reminds me of my hair color!

I have a few reoccurring dreams in which I can't get to where I need to be or I'm unprepared, the most frustrating ones put me back in high school sans schedule with no idea how to get to my class. Or with only a skirt to wear and unshaven legs, or no makeup! It's probably just the stress of getting to everything on my plate. Sometimes I feel like a freshman to adulthood, even though I'm in my mid twenties!

I had the craziest dream last night were I was frantically trying to make it to a flight to Australia that left at 12:25 am and no matter what I couldn't find my way through the airport in time and missed the only flight. Somehow I managed to buy my way(for 40 dollars!) onto a private run down plane that was taking a small group to the outback. I have no idea why I was going anyway but in the dream I tell the passengers that I wasn't even upset about losing out on the super expensive tickets.."it was the koalas, it's always the koalas" haha! If I had a favorite animal it would be a koala, or an otter..

Happy Friday!

bedroom bits...

My grandma Betty left me a few jewelry boxes..now I have a *few* more haha
One of my favorite things to collect, along with vintage cameras!

Vintage luggage collection.
Perfect for storing extra bed stuff and old blankets.
Just don't forget to remove old tags from 40 years ago when you travel..
I was like ooh,doggie! Oh.
Ooops, had to tell the officer " I buy a lot of things from thrift stores" haha!

They both sleep in the bed with us sometimes, Luke had a basset hound growing up so it was inevitable.
