let's go to the pumpkin patch..

1979 by The Smashing Pumpkins - www.musicasparabaixar.org on Grooveshark

“I'd rather sit alone on a pumpkin and have it all to myself than be crowded on a velvet cushion.”  -Henry David Thoreau

Visiting the pumpkin patch is one of the little trips I looked forward to every year growing up, it still makes me feel all nostalgic. The colors, textures, and scents just scream fall. Caramel apples, cider, pumpkin pie..I want all the things. We went a few days before Halloween this year, just in time for carving and roasting pumpkin seeds.

When Luke and I first started dating we were at a thrift store and he spotted a little collapsible metal basket and brought it to me sing-songing, "lets go to the pumpkin patch, pick some squash, put it in this thing." He doesn't do a whole lot of silly/adorable things so it was sweet. Except sometimes he does an uncharacteristic high pitched "kitty!" squeal when he sees an extra cute one. haha! Love him.

I hope you're having a fun fall, wherever you are!

you picked me.

You Picked Me by A Fine Frenzy on Grooveshark

One of our favorite things to during the warmer weather months is fruit picking at the orchard. Its one of those little things we've done together our entire relationship and we recently celebrated our 5 yr wedding anniversary! Time flies. It's just outside of the city and all of the open space makes you feel like you're in the country. I remember coming here with my grandma Betty as a little girl.

google earth-always takin pics.

We always like to have little competitions or bet on who's right..the person with the best blackberry specimen got treated to lunch. I won. haha! I'm just shorter and closer to the earth, and better at hunting. It's the thrifting training I swear.

There really is nothing like picking fresh fruit, and making something sweet.
We still have apples and pumpkins to pick, my favorites!

Hope you're having a lovely weekend.

the clash

I want you to notice
When I'm not around
creep

Ever put on something that you think matches perfectly and realize it's completely clashing?
That's this shirt. To my human eyes this weird ocher-ish color matched the leaves in this dress, it came off looking more pumpkin spice on camera..drat. They look awesome together hanging in my closet though! haha My fortune cookie said it perfectly-

To have a beautiful life you have to make some beautiful mistakes

perfect coat hook!

We discovered a new tree at one of our favorite parks, the Honey Locust!
It's near a little river and has the gnarliest looking massive spikes protruding from an otherwise normal looking tree..there were black banana looking things all over the ground under it too, what a weirdo!

Honey Locust facts( from wiki)

The name derives from the sweet taste of the legume pulp, which was used for food by Native American people, and can also be fermented to make beer.

The strongly scented cream-colored flowers appear in late spring. The fruit of the Honey locust is a flat legume (pod) that matures in early autumn.

These thorns are thought to have evolved to protect the trees from browsing Pleistocene megafauna

Pleistocene megafauna is the set of species of large animals that lived on Earth during the Pleistocene epoch and became extinct in a Quaternary extinction event. These species appear to have died off as humans expanded, larger islands lost the vast majority of their larger and all of their largest mammals.  Four theories have been given for these extinctions: hunting by the spreading humans,[1] climatic change, spreading disease, and an impact from an asteroid or comet,[2] a combination of which is also possible.

I can just imagine the amazing creatures that used to roam these lands, wish I could go back in time!

Have you guys been watching American Horror Story?! This season is extra creepy/awesome..loving the 60's flashbacks.

Hope you're having a great week!

weekend winsome

I used to love to post these little recaps religiously every Sunday night, I haven't done one in the longest! I blame my bad blogging on the broken down laptop. I swear I was so much more productive when I could watch tv/netflix and do work..being in my studio is too secluded!

tasty treats-

Do you know the joys of jello 123? Luke has this desert down.

Remember the Book It! program in school?  I used to go crazy for the personal pan cheese pizza. Luke's been trying to get me to read The Count of Monte Cristo aloud before bed. I made it through a few chapters, I earned it. haha
(favorite thing in the 90s scholastic book club was the mineral book with specimens)

Lu's getting so big, like a teenager haha he's 4lbs now!

little black bean toes

this was my life this morning haha there's a bunny in that mix too!

whomp fest

watching-

Saturday morning Luke and I got sucked into watching a "Too Cute" marathon on animal planet. Baby animals and a whole episode on sloths!! I adore their perma smile, these people literally have my dream job!

Buttercup the sloth is the coolest.

Did you guys watch The Walking Dead premiere tonight?! So excited that I was actually caught up with a show enough to watch it "live" haha I'm always late to the party.

Hope you had a great weekend!

early autumn

Bird Of The Summer by A Fine Frenzy on Grooveshark

"Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth
seeking the successive autumns."
- George Eliot

I love this time in late summer, after the long stretch of intense heat here in the Midwest it's finally cooling down. I already sipped my first hot apple cider out of a mason jar..with a cinnamon stick. So excited for my favorite season! We had an entire week of fall like weather and some of the trees and plants got super excited too and started changing colors, I busted out the tights. And A Fine Frenzy, it's a fall thing.  Luke's been off all week, we're having a little staycation. Doing cheap things around town that we love. Yesterday we spent some time at my parents and headed out to my favorite park, Pleasant Ridge. My childhood place to hunt for mushrooms and explore, it was Clementine's first trip here! I ♥ my bike.

Clemmie, posted up.

She was a rusty dusty purple Schwinn before her makeover last summer, my favorite project so far. The upgrades were super affordable

One of my favorite dresses, I wear it every season! I'm working with a tiny budget..my favorite pieces have multiple neutral-ish colors, so many color combos!
