let's go to the pumpkin patch..

“I'd rather sit alone on a pumpkin and have it all to myself than be crowded on a velvet cushion.”  -Henry David Thoreau

Visiting the pumpkin patch is one of the little trips I looked forward to every year growing up, it still makes me feel all nostalgic. The colors, textures, and scents just scream fall. Caramel apples, cider, pumpkin pie..I want all the things. We went a few days before Halloween this year, just in time for carving and roasting pumpkin seeds.

When Luke and I first started dating we were at a thrift store and he spotted a little collapsible metal basket and brought it to me sing-songing, "lets go to the pumpkin patch, pick some squash, put it in this thing." He doesn't do a whole lot of silly/adorable things so it was sweet. Except sometimes he does an uncharacteristic high pitched "kitty!" squeal when he sees an extra cute one. haha! Love him.

autumnal

i love the open road, and all that it suggests
soot and stars

only one rule in the patch-no smashing pumpkins
wanderlust

I always feel like I lose a little chunk of time when I'm sick, all of a sudden it was the very last day for pumpkin picking! We braved the cold weather and whipping wind for a bit and headed just a few miles away to our favorite orchard. I love being in the middle of town near all of my thrift/vintage shops yet so close to farmland and trees, it's definitely middle of America. I can't really describe the feeling around here..normal? I was always dreaming of New York as a teenager, working for a magazine or something..but I was just too afraid to take that big of a chance, and unsure of what I really wanted.(when I was little I wanted to be a designer or marine biologist..i didn't see the ocean until I was 17 haha) Growing up I just wanted to get away..you know..anywhere but here. I even succeeded once right after high school(early graduation), packing my car full and heading south to my childhood best friend's. My parents drove the 10 hours and brought me back, much to my chagrin. I had the chance to move out on my own a year later and I was a little more prepared, and free! I still don't know what I want out of life, who really does? That's kind of the adventure. I just know I don't want to run anymore, I'm right where I want to be. I am however, a huge fan of road trips, even mini ones! I think that has to be one of the sweeter things..finding interest in the mundane and beauty in the everyday.

picked the perfect pumpkin

a foxtail and a fleet fox!
i'm jealous of you birds

I made french onion soup(again!) and my pecan and pumpkin pie..did I mention I love comfort food when I'm sick haha
Mom brought me this new french press she snagged at the thrift store for 50 cents! It's amazing. My first one..toasted southern pecan coffee has never tasted better.

I shot this through Luke's celestron astromaster telescope..so glad I bought it a few years ago, it gets a lot of use!

day tripper : pumpkin patch

I cannot endure to waste anything as precious as autumn sunshine by staying in the house. So I spend almost all the daylight hours in the open air.
Nathaniel Hawthorne

Fall weather this weekend..sunny, 70, and breezy! We took a day trip to the farm and had a perfect weekend full of a few of our favorite fall traditions. Pumpkin picking and pie baking. We'll be carving them up soon..can't wait for roasted seeds! I'm so glad we spent the weekend outside, it's going to be in the 50's this week..ugh.

We found our perfect pumpkins!

My vintage plant stand serves as an impromptu pie rack..these turned out amazing! I can't wait to share my recipe with you!

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend!
