gloomy sunday

We had an awesome, low key weekend. I kind of love the days when there is really nothing to do but whatever sounds good. There's been a crazy heat wave for weeks and the rain finally came on Sunday. It was that light, steady rain that just cools down the air..we threw open every window. Chilly days in the summer are my favorite! The rain curbed our plans of a little day trip to Grafton for the riverside flea market, hummingbird festival(!), and blackberry picking..sounds awesome right?! We stayed in town instead and pretended like we were on vacation.

Homemade gooey butter cake..The best. The recipe's from high school home ec, my favorite class.(grandma Betty's plates)

Fresh picks-this is what I normally strive for when thrifting: 60's florals,sweet flats,anything tooled,cute/pretty glass things &
enamel brooches! These are kind of hard to find lately so it's extra exciting.

60's scrabble..original owners notebook

Most of the time was spent outside on the deck being our future old people selves. An entire game of scrabble, coffee, little sandwiches, animal friends..it was perfection. To be fair we played the loose rules edition..

honey peanut butter+strawberry jam

Zizi's getting back to her feisty self, she had a sick spell and made me worry like crazy. I love this sweet girl. We took her in a few years ago and she's had my heart ever since Luke plopped her rumpled self down on our bed. She's the creepiest/cutest thing I've ever seen..her profile is so sinister. And she has this weird little goatee. My tiny bearded lady. I want to restore the eaves on our 1860's house with little gargoyles of her haha

Gave myself some fresh fringe/color. Such a weird in-between stage, all I want to do in this heat is throw it in a tiny ponytail. Growing it out from a pixie is tough!

Happy Tuesday!

film friday

I haven't done a film friday in a while..mostly because they changed the cable lineup and took away TCM! I was devastated. We, myself and the senior citizen community, are outraged. haha This article cracks me up!  I don't love a whole lot of tv but c'mon, Turner Classic Movies?! I would have it on all day while I was working in the studio..now it's back to netflix for my old movie fix. I'm re watching favorites now and this is definitely top 10, it's one the first classic movies Luke and I watched together. I think we might have watched Sunset Boulevard on the same night..these were his picks, I think he likes feisty older ladies. We were browsing through books at the flea market a few months ago and I heard a voice squeal "Auntie Mame!" haha he had found the vintage book and was excited to show me..I still make fun of him. I guess you could say he loves it too!

My screenshots, I just love the colors and details of this film..

Auntie Mame(1958)

I ♥ vintage kaleidoscopes

Set in 1920's New York,  Rosalind Russell(Mame) is an eccentric wealthy women with a zest for life and luxury. I adore her. She always throws the best parties and is decked out in the latest fashions. She changes color schemes in her grand home quicker than her hair color haha She's what I imagine myself to be as an older lady..minus the funds. Mame's world is turned upside down when she inherits her young nephew followed by a stock market crash. She's gotta find a job, or a man...

That bar cart, her collars!

The fleeing fox and too small shoes are my favorite, she cracks me up!

Happy Friday!

days of our lives..

In an effort to capture more everyday snaps I wanted to do some sort of my day in photos type of post. I was telling Luke that I was going to call it a day in the life(that song was stuck in my head!) and then last night Kellen put on a song that sampled the theme from days of our lives..that was my jam! I remember watching it every day with my grandpa in the 90's, it's safe to say that show was my first taste of tv drama. As a teenager I was all about the soap opera Passions, please tell me someone else watched that ridiculousness haha!

like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives..

I'm really bad at eating breakfast but I do drink coffee every day. I almost always make a whole pot and end up drinking only 1 or 2 cups, or I get distracted and wait till it's cold to take a sip. Quirky vintage mugs are one of my favorite things to collect. The book is pretty interesting so far..I couldn't resist the tittle.

Tomatoes from the garden and cottage cheese. Geez I sound like my grandma Betty..I'm an old person. haha There really is nothing like a warm sun ripened tomato from your own backyard.

did some thrifting..

Thrifting themes. Sometimes it happens, and it's awesome.
thrifty tip #1- wear your comfiest(and possibly ugliest?) shoes

sushi date!

Our favorite place opened just down the street last year and its super affordable and delicious..we are usually the only ones there, it's the best. The sushi chef/owner always smiles big through the kitchen window and I give him the head shake and thumbs up while chowing down. Every time. haha

Went to Kellen's and dug through his record collection..

midnight city..
I really do love my town at night!

Having the day off with my best buddy is the greatest, this was my perfect kind of day. I'm a total homebody/introvert and I've been feeling a bit down lately and craving some human interaction haha This day was just what I needed. I sometimes have a hard time gauging if people like me or not and it makes me a little sad. Lame? Probably. I'm sure I think too much. Someone that was hanging out with us last night out of the blue looked over and said " you are so fun" Me-thank you, that's so nice to hear. Another person was like "Yeah, Krystle is funny as hell!" haha It's kind of like when I get a sweet comment or someone new follows my blog! I'm like aww..yay! that's so nice! I know, I'm a dork. haha I only ever want to be a nice addition.. not the most popular or pretty. More understated and unexpected. I guess that is what I want this little place of mine to be. I can only be myself, if another like minded soul can appreciate that than it just makes life a little more sweet.

Happy Friday!

cine style: breathless

Every time I watch Breathless I long for the perfect Jean Seberg stripes, cropped skinnies and ballet flats.  Her pixie cut and winged liner is the icing on the cake, so fresh and timeless!

Have a lovely Tuesday!

shadowplay

I've been listening to Joy Division and The Smiths lately..oh the angst haha

I couldn't resist this dress, hearts and b&w..it had to be mine!
This vintage lace jacket is perfect for summer, I always like to have something layered on top and it's not easy in this heat! Sheer/lightweight cardigans are my friend right now.

The last one was taken right after Copper jumped up and slashed my tights with his beast claws..this is why I don't buy nice things haha I have bad luck with tights in general but especially the dotted styles, soo thin!

he's sulking.

Luke and I got the telescope out for a bit last night for some coffee and star gazing on the deck. The moon is in its "waxing gibbous" lunar phase and it's a full moon tonight! He loves astronomy, I love astrology..it works out.

Our Tuesday tradition is 1.50 movies at my hometown theater with my family, we're going to see Dark Shadows.

I just started watching the original tv series from the 60's on netflix instant.

"Filled with Gothic mystery and supernatural intrigue, the daytime series "Dark Shadows" became wildly popular after its 1966 premiere on ABC and has earned a reputation as one of the most unusual and enduring programs in TV history. The show revolves around Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid), a guilt-ridden 175-year-old vampire who longs to be human again and returns to his estate after being chained inside a coffin for nearly 200 years"-netflix

sounds like my cup of tea..

I adore Tim Burton's dark and quirky style..Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice are two of my all time favorites!

Happy Tuesday!
